Web & Mobile App Critique

     Govee is a smart-light company that manufactures LED lights & smart home devices. The company was founded in 2017 & has grown globally with 870+ patents & 30 million app users. Govee makes several affordable lighting options ranging from bulbs to light panels, towers, corner lights & in/outdoor lighting. I personally own 4 Govee smart lightbulbs, that I can connect with via the app on my phone, or tablet using WIFI, to adjust brightness, color, or tone using the Govee app. The app’s color options are endless, which is especially useful for avid gamers, or people who don’t like bright lights, whether due to sensitive eyesight, or for those liking more of an ambience within the rooms of their home. For those that just need a light to study or read, the Govee app and products that come with it offer that as well with different white light variations that can be applied within the app. You can also change the theme of the app as well with limited options.

Govee App Features:

   The Govee app comes with several smart features such as being able to set various timers (to turn on/off a lights). These timers can be set up individually for whatever days of the week a person desires; the app makes this set-up quick & simple. You can also merge two or more bulbs under a one-click function, which enables you to turn on several different lights at once with the tap of one button on your phone. The app also provides an integrated Govee store, which allows you to shop on your Govee account for special deals & offers on certain products. The Govee store within the app can be a little overwhelming with several ads, and product listings at once.

Product Recommendations:

       One recommendation I have would be on the design. The design is simple at first glance, however some of the functions are not layed out simply, so you end up selecting random icons that aren’t clear as to what they are or do. Secondly, I would say the app’s response time from when you tap to turn on a light in the app, to when it turns on could be improved as well. It doesn’t matter how far you are away from the bulb; it usually takes a couple of milliseconds in some cases for the signal to fully go to the light and turn it on. Lastly, part of the connectivity issues at times stems from the WIFI connectivity as well. Even though, its connected, sometimes you have to attempt turning the light on from the app a couple of times for it to fully register. This could partially be due to WIFI issues, but from my experience, the WIFI was fine, it was the app & bulbs functionality that was causing the issue. Outside of those improvements, the Govee app is a verify useful application & product in terms of offering a variety of options in a simplified format. Lighting is something every human being uses every day, so having the capability to use it via an app on a phone or other smart device, further expands its uses.

Product Review Feedback:

    In the feedback’s received from this post, the app proved to be interesting to my peers. Some of the questions posed were pertaining to the product in comparison to others such as Amazon. Many of my peers that were familiar with Govee had different experiences with the application however it was agreed that the app itself & its purpose, served to be rewarding. Some have never heard of this product/application, so I think the review was more informative than expected.
